Ceramic sculptures

These rather intense inscendental sculptures attempt to both suggest the outer appearance and the inner physicality of the subject. Hence each figure represents aspects of the visible and the invisible.

In the interplay between abstraction and realism the imagination and empathetic capacity of the viewer get triggered, diminishing the subject-object duality.

Overlaps between series are not uncommon.

As a general rule, through embodied imagination, the sculptor is attuned to the sculpted and the meaning that arises during the creation process. In other words, meaning arises from the physical (and psychological) interactions during which artist and artwork repeatedly join and disjoin.
This implies that there is no predetermined style or image: form and content of a sculpture unfold from and get enfolded into the indivisible whole that grows from a lump of clay into its final presence.
